Dawn the Sheep Hat – I’m hooked!

This is my first crochet project and was a lot of fun to make.  I found the pattern ‘Dawn the Sheep’ on Ravelry. It’s by Jewel’s Forever Hooked Designs. (I did find a mistake in the pattern but I think the vendor may have corrected it.).

Since I’m a newbie I had to do the ears and the eyes twice, but got into the swing of it.  The ears are actually little tubes crocheted in the round. It was a great intro to crochet though since there was no pressure to get it perfect. Little did I know that mohair, used on the top puff, is not for the faint of heart or first timer!
Shawn the Sheep is popular at my house, although my son is almost too old for it now. If you are not familiar with it, Shawn the Sheep is a very funny British Nick Park claymation TV show.
I find crochet to be quite organic in nature which is very cool, not like my sewing at all.  It’s also something that I can do on my daily train commute so it doesn’t take any time away from sewing. I prefer single crochet to triple crochet or granny squares.
The problem with crochet is that it inherently has holes in it! Why make or wear a sweater if it doesn’t keep you warm? I’m going to have to find a way to work around this problem. Maybe line crocheted pieces? Learn to knit?
